World Elder Abuse Awareness Day

Today marks World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, a global reminder that the mistreatment of older people is never acceptable. It’s a call to recognise the signs, speak out, and take action.

Elder abuse can take many forms. It may be physical, emotional, financial, social, or stem from neglect. It’s not always visible. Often, it happens behind closed doors – in homes, in communities, even in aged care – and is too often carried out by someone the person knows and trusts.

At Peninsula Villages, we have zero tolerance for elder abuse.

This isn’t just a policy. It’s part of our culture. Every concern is taken seriously. Every form of harm is treated with urgency. There is no such thing as ‘minor’ mistreatment. If it affects someone’s wellbeing, it matters, and it must be addressed.

Respect for our elders is our starting point. The safety, dignity and rights of our residents sit at the heart of everything we do every single day.

World Elder Abuse Awareness Day is more than just a date; it’s a call to action. If something feels wrong, don’t ignore it. If you notice signs of abuse or if something seems off, speak up. Your voice could make a significant difference.

We owe a great deal to the older generations, those who raised us, guided us and shaped our communities. They deserve more than care. They deserve respect, protection, and to be heard.

Today and every day, we stand with older people. Let’s make that stand count.
