Valentine’s Day celebrations with the Umina Kids Club

Love was in the air at Peninsula Villages on Valentine’s Day last week when the Village treated residents to a romantic High Tea made even more special with hand crafted Valentine’s cards from the local kids at Umina Kids Club.

Residents had the pleasure of enjoying delicious treats and celebrating love, with some Village couples getting to spend quality time together to celebrate the day.

The event was made extra special as children from the Umina Kids Club visited the Village to perform for residents and gift them hand-made Valentine’s Day cards, each with their very own special message.

For more than a year, Peninsula Villages and Umina Kids Club have shared a special community partnership, with both residents and the preschool children enjoying regular visits for special occasions such as Grandparent’s Day, Christmas and Easter.

Shanes Neaves, Chief Executive Officer of Peninsula Villages, said, “The intergenerational relationship between our residents and children from Umina Kids Club is heart-warming. You can see how much joy the children bring to our residents and for that, we are very thankful.

“Our residents were lucky enough to enjoy a performance from Umina Kids Club who sang a number of well known love songs to our resident’s such as ‘You are my Sunshine’ and ‘I Love You, You Love Me’..

“Valentine’s Day is always a special occasion at the Village, with some of our residents celebrating milestone anniversaries together this year. It is also a solemn commemoration for residents who have had their significant others pass away, reminiscing about past love with friends," said Shane.

The Village also asked residents and staff to bring with them to the special event, photos from their weddings and love celebrations, with a wonderful selection of photos displayed.

“With many of our couples marrying in the 40s and 50s, it was wonderful to see all their beautiful black and white photos retouched with colour, as they did back in that era – everyone had beautiful blush cheeks,” laughed Shane.

“Valentine’s Day and events such as these prove why our Village environment truly is special and beneficial for ageing locals as residents have the opportunity to socialise with others and enjoy time together in a positive and fulfilling setting,” he added.
