Peninsula fun club raising money for good causes

The award-winning Peninsula Villages at Umina Beach has undertaken a new initiative to raise money for good causes. The Fun Club, a team of a dozen staff members, has been in action for almost six months, organising monthly events for residents and locals that raise funds to give back to community organisations and initiatives.

The Village’s involvement in the community for over 40 years, has resulted in a more focused approach via the Fun Club, which aims to raise money for a select cause each month.

In September, the Fun Club created a day where all staff paid for the privilege of wearing the colours of their favourite AFL or NRL team to work and the Club hosted a spring BBQ lunch, with funds raised going toward the Fight Cancer Foundation.

Lana Kinross, head of the Fun Club said, “The Club is the best way for us to get the community together in an effort to give back to organisations that are close to our hearts. We are able to spread a little joy amongst the residents of the Village, as well as raise funds and awareness for community organisations.

“The Fight Cancer Foundation Footy Colours Day and BBQ that we hosted in late September was a great way for us to bring attention to both the Foundation and the Village. It showed the community that our residents are grateful for the support that they receive and that they too wish to reach out and help those that may be affected by cancer,” said Lana.

The Fun Club has also introduced a recycling program within the Village. This has been implemented through the NSW Government’s Return and Earn initiative, where residents can donate their recycled bottles, and funds collected are added to the Club’s fundraising total.

“Initiatives like the recycling program allow our residents to remain involved in the community and enables us to do our part in making a difference to the Peninsula and the environment,” added Lana.

In the four months that the Peninsula Villages Fun Club has been raising funds, they have donated more than $1,500 to worthy causes including Carrie’s Beanies for Brain Cancer, Fight Cancer Foundation, and to support the family of a staff member who suddenly passed away.
