Peninsula Villages Residents to Compete in Own Paralypic Games

After such an enthusiastic response from Peninsula Villages residents following the organisation of their very own Peninsula Villages Olympic Games last month, the organisation will be holding the Peninsula Villages Paralympics Games, commencing on Monday 12 September.

The committed team at Peninsula Villages regularly organises physical activities for residents to keep them fit and healthy and last month devised an in-house Olympic Games to spark friendly rivalry amongst residents and encourage social interaction.

Due to the huge success of the program, they will now be running their own Peninsula Villages Paralympics Games, to encourage participation from lesser abled residents and those with a disability. Residents will have an opportunity to participate in a variety of athletic competitions, such as wheelchair races, Egg and Spoon Races, Seated Shuffleboard and Paralympic Ball Pass as they show their support of our Australian Paralympians.

To reflect the wide variety of disabilities that Paralympic athletes have, there will be several categories in which residents can compete, including impaired muscle power, impaired range of movement, limb deficiency, leg difference, short stature, vision impairment and intellectual impairment.

Chief Executive Officer of Peninsula Villages, Shane Neaves, said that after the success of their Olympic Games last month, residents are very excited about the upcoming Paralympic Games.

“Our residents will be able to participate in teamwork, enjoy the outdoors and improve their physical and mental fitness – all while enjoying a bit of friendly competition,” said Mr Neaves. “The residents will compete for points that will be tallied up over the coming weeks and awards will be presented during the Closing Ceremony. It’s a wonderful initiative that aims to ignite some passion in the eyes of our contestants and encourage positive social interaction,” he added.

The Peninsula Villages Paralympic Games will run at Peninsula Village at Umina Beach from Monday 12 September and will conclude on Friday 16 September with the medal ceremony and morning tea.
